The VU-net-id is a user name, with a password, with which you can gain access to all kinds of digital services. You are given only one VU-net-id, even if you enrolled in more than one programme.

Your VU-net-id consists of:

  • The first letter of your first name
  • The first letter of your surname (exclude prefixes)
  • The last letter of your surname (exlude prefixes)
  • A three-digit number
  • If no first name is available, the first two letters of your surname are used.

For example:
Name of user: V. Surname
VU-net-id: vse500

How do you obtain a VU-net-id
You receive a VU-net-id when you register as a student. You receive it in two separate e-mails at your private e-mail address.

Your VU-net-id remains valid for ninety days after you have deregistered at VU, although you may not be able to access some systems.

Changing your password and setting your personal questions
You can change your password in TOP. You first have to answer two personal questions (password reminder). If you have forgotten your password, you can retrieve it by answering the personal questions.
Please note: your password should consist of at least six and no more than eight characters.

Forgotten password
If you have ever changed your password using TOP, then you can apply for a new one via ‘Password forgotten?’ You will first have to answer the personal questions that you entered previously.

If you have never changed your password, or if you have forgotten the answers to the personal questions, go to the UC-IT Service Desk in 0A-11 in the main building. You must take a valid identity document with you (student card or passport). Our Service Desk will be able to create a new password for you.

Change VU-net-id user name
You cannot change your VU-net-id user name.

Forgotten VU-net-id
You can ask for your VU-net-id at the UC-IT Service Desk.

Problems logging in
Can you not log in?

  • Check your password.
Look out for similar-looking characters, such as 0 (the number) and O (the letter), and 1 and l (the letter).
Does your password include a tilde (~) or a circumflex accent (^)? With some keyboards, you have to press the space bar for these symbols to appear after you have pressed the relevant symbol key, but before you enter the next character.
  • Check that Caps Lock is not on.
  • Check your VU-net-id with Student Services. It could be that an aspect of your registration is not correct.
