Testimonials (staff about ‘Working at the VU’)

‘Working at the VU on such things as the long-term development of the campus. Highly complex, but that’s precisely what makes it such a challenge to produce something really good. Creating almost an entirely new campus at such a special place in Amsterdam is quite a task. And the renovation is going on while thousands of students and colleagues need to keep on with their work. Being able to contribute my business and financial expertise to this task was why I came to work at the VU.’

Hans Schoorl
Controller, Financial Planning & Control

'For me, scientific ambition is a passion for research. Boundless curiosity. The VU creates the space for you to spread your wings.’

Albert J. Menkveld
Winner of the de Pierson Medal in 2007 as ‘a promising young economist who will make a name for himself in the international  arena’.

'First and foremost, you must really enjoy your research, as this will be reflected in your research and teaching.’

Simon Troelstra
Researcher and lecturer at the Faculty of Earth and Life Sciences and winner of the ‘Mediakomeet 2007’ (prize for researchers who make their research available to a wider public in an accessible way).

'As I am being paid through public funds for carrying out my research, it is also my responsibility to make my findings known as widely as possible in our community.’

Jan Dirk de Jong
Researcher at the Faculty of Law and writer of the highly successful book on sociology ‘Kapot moeilijk’.
