On Thursday October 20, VU University Amsterdam celebrates the 131st anniversary of its foundation. During the academic session, an honorary doctorate is awarded to Timothy Noakes on the recommendation of the Faculty of Human Movement Sciences. He will receive this distinction in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the field of exercise physiology and sports medicine.
The Dies Natalis lecture will be given by Jaap van Dieën, Professor of Biomechanics at the Faculty of Human Movement Sciences. VUsionair, columnist and contemporary thinker Martin Šimek will share his thoughts on setting boundaries, and the Societal Impact Awards will be presented.

- Handstand Act by Andrey Koltsov, famous from Cirque du Soleil
- ‘Coaching: How do you do that?’ by Martin Šimek, columnist and this year’s VUsionair
- Honorary doctorate: Award of the degree of Doctor honoris causa to Timothy Noakes by Professor A. de Haan
- Closing address by Professor Lex Bouter, Rector Magnificus
16:30 - Reception in the Foyer
The programme will be in Dutch. An English-speaking interpreter will be present for the benefit of international guests. Headsets will be available at the entrance to the Aula.
On 21 October, the Faculty of Human Movement Sciences will have been in existence for 40 years. There will be a special anniversary programme to celebrate this. Honorary Doctor Timothy Noakes will be giving a lecture. More information is available on the website of the Faculty of Human Movement Sciences.
