Building Transformative Connections and enriching higher education

18 July 2023
The Centre for International Cooperation (CIS-VU) organised recently a successful workshop on curriculum enrichment around food systems and climate change.

The Centre for International Cooperation (CIS-VU) organised recently a successful workshop on curriculum enrichment around food systems and climate change. The event brought together a diverse group of academic professionals from around the world who are collaborating with VU Amsterdam in this critical domain. The workshop also featured guest lectures by international experts, and it was an honor to also have students from the summer school program "Feeding the Billions," coordinated by dr. Denyse Snelder (CIS-VU). Bringing students and professionals together did not only add a unique perspective to the event, but it also posed a very interesting opportunity to connect education with real-life societal challenges.

During the event both students as well as the academic staff highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary and collaborative efforts in addressing climate change. Furthermore, the participants of the workshop made a start towards the enrichment of their curricula in the area of food systems and climate change. Throughout the workshop, they engaged in meaningful discussions, exchanged valuable knowledge, and expanded their professional networks. The connections and the ideas established during this event will contribute to South South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC), an initiative led by CIS-VU supported by the Amsterdam Centre for World Food Studies, to connect African and European universities, sharing knowledge and stimulating innovative research.

The workshop was part of the EU-funded INSSPIRE project, coordinated by Sabina Di Prima (CIS-VU), and the FAO-funded South-South and Triangular Cooperation initiative, coordinated by dr. Denyse Snelder (CIS-VU).
