Econometrics and Operations Research
Econometrics and Operations Research borders on a number of disciplines, most notably economics, mathematics and computer science. The programme is geared towards actual business practice. You learn how to solve a company’s numerical problems using applied mathematics, computers and information technology. How do you set about planning a work schedule for aviation personnel while taking into account such aspects as alternation of flight crews and restrictions imposed by collective labour agreements? What are the factors that influence house prices in Amsterdam? Which route should a mail van take in order to empty all the post boxes in an area at the lowest possible cost?
The study in short terms
The Bachelor’s in Econometrics and Operations Research is a three-year programme. During the first two years you will acquire the requisite knowledge in the fields of mathematics, economics, econometrics and computer science. All students take the same subjects at this stage of the programme. In your third year you will select a minor subject and a major subject. The following subjects are available as majors: management science (operational research), econometrics, mathematical economics or business econometrics. The Master’s is a one-year programme concluding with a thesis or a work placement.
Prospects after your Bachelor’s
A degree in Econometrics and Operations Research puts you in an outstanding position on the job market. There are numerous career options open to you. Econometrics graduates can be found working in insurance, transport and logistics, consultancy and telecommunications. They often embark on a career as a consultant, a programmer, a researcher, a manager or a project manager.
