Honours Programme
Are you a talented and motivated student looking to broaden your horizons and gain a more in-depth perspective on your own field? The Honours Programme could be exactly what you’re looking for!
The Honours Programme is designed for students who have passed all of their first-year Bachelor's subjects by the end of that year, who have achieved an average mark of 7.5 and who have the motivation to take extra subjects in the second and third year of their programme.
The Honours Programme is mainly taught in English and consists of two sections: one faculty-specific and the other interdisciplinary. You will be able to earn an extra 30 credits in addition to the 180 credits on the standard Bachelor’s programme. On completion of your Bachelor’s, your Honours achievement will be stated on your degree certificate and the extra subjects taken will be listed on your diploma supplement.
The faculty section of the Honours Programme involves taking extra courses within your own faculty, producing a more challenging Bachelor's thesis or completing an individual component assigned by one of your lecturers.
The interdisciplinary components are taught mainly in the evening by the finest lecturers from VU University Amsterdam, the University of Amsterdam and Amsterdam University College, as well as guest lecturers from the Netherlands and abroad. The classes are small and you will be expected to give presentations, write papers and make an active contribution to discussions.
If you would like to find out more about the Honours Programme, drop by and see us at our open consultation session or contact the Honours coordinator at your faculty. Perhaps we will have the pleasure of welcoming you to this excellent programme in your second year!
