Checklists
Before travelling to the Netherlands you must have:
- a valid passport (in some cases at least for another year)
- a visa or Authorization for Temporary Stay (MVV), if applicable
- a letter of acceptance confirming that you are taking part in this Bachelor's programme at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam
proof that you have the financial means to cover your stay in the Netherlands - a legalized birth certificate (in English) and a passport
- if you are married, a marriage certificate
- three recent colour passport photos
- a medical insurance policy with extra medical cover for treatment abroad, and a personal public liability policy. If you cannot obtain supplementary cover in your own country, you can take out a policy through one of the two companies mentioned under "health insurance" on our corporate website (see above, under 'Health insurance').
Once you have arrived in the Netherlands you should contact the IBA office. You will receive any information that has not been sent before arrival. A number of arrangements to be made are registration at the university, paying the tuition fee, applying for a residence permit and opening a bank account. This is the reason that we ask you to arrive three weeks before the start of the programme so that you do not only have time to get to know your fellow students and the city, but also to make all these practical arrangements before the start of classes.
Information about the Netherlands
Information about the Netherlands can be found in the booklets entitled 'An introduction to Living in Holland' and 'Practical Guide to Living in Holland', both of which can be ordered from Nuffic (Netherlands Organization for International Co-operation in Higher Education: visit their website www.nuffic.nl). On www.iamsterdam.nl you will find useful information about living in the nation's capital.
Compulsory Exchange
For all students starting with their Bachelor programme in 2012 or later, an exchange semester is an obligatory part of their study programme. For more information about exchange possibilities, please look at Exchange Programmes for VU students.
Scholarships
The faculty will have some scholarships available for incoming international Bachelor's students this year. Excellent students in need of financial assistance may apply. Contact the IBA international office for further questions. Excellent prior study results, a letter of motivation for the scholarship and a financial plan (overview of expected needs and available funds per month) will be required for a scholarship application. Applications will be evaluated both on educational excellence and on financial situation.
More general information for international students can be found at Studying at VU and Students.
