VU University Amsterdam welcomes about 200 international exchange students each year. Our exchange programmes will give you a taste of life and studying in Amsterdam. Exchange students come to Amsterdam within the framework of SOCRATES agreements, the International Student Exchange Program (ISEP) for Dutch-American exchanges and bilateral agreements with universities all over the world.

If your university is an exchange partner of VU University Amsterdam you can apply for a study abroad period at the International Office of your own university. As an exchange student you do not have to pay a tuition fee at VU University Amsterdam, but you will continue to pay tuition to your home institution. You can choose from a wide selection of courses.

At the International Office we help you to find accomodation and to apply for a visa and residene permit (if appllicable). We also offer an introduction period for international students in August and February consisting of social events, sports activities and a cultural programme. In addition, the international students’ organization ESN-VUniverse organizes a range of activities throughout the year.
