Exchange Programmes

VU University Amsterdam welcomes about 200 international exchange students each year. Our exchange programmes will give you a taste of life and studying in Amsterdam. Exchange students come to Amsterdam within the framework of SOCRATES agreements, the International Student Exchange Program (ISEP) for Dutch-American exchanges and bilateral agreements with universities all over the world. In this database you can read experiences of former exchange students at VU University.

If your university is an exchange partner of VU University Amsterdam you can apply for a study abroad period at the International Office of your own university. As an exchange student you do not have to pay a tuition fee at VU University Amsterdam, but you will continue to pay tuition to your home institution. You can choose from a wide selection of courses.

At the International Office we help you to find accomodation and to apply for a visa and residene permit (if appllicable). We also offer an introduction period for international students in August and February consisting of social events, sports activities and a cultural programme. In addition, the international students’ organization ESN-VUniverse organizes a range of activities throughout the year.
