Drug Discovery and Safety
Why study at VU University Amsterdam
Specialists who look beyond their own center of expertise
The master programme Drug Discovery and Safety trains you as a specialist in one of the aspects of drug discovery and development. You will also acquire knowledge of other relevant disciplines. Moreover, you will learn to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team. The challenges and opportunities of our era ask for bright scientists that are willing to look beyond their own center of expertise.
Boosting innovation in academic and industrial pharmaceutical research
Our multidisciplinary approach has received much appreciation in recent years. Teaching and research are set up in a similar way as in projects in the pharmaceutical industry. Drug Discovery and Safety has an unprecedented large number of projects within the Top Institute Pharma, an important Dutch initiative to further boost innovation in academic and industrial pharmaceutical research.
LACDR
LACDR is the Leiden and Amsterdam Center for Drug Research. The departments of Pharmaceutical Sciences at VU University and Biopharmaceutical Sciences of the University of Leiden work together in LACDR. You will make use of the center’s expertise during your studies.
AIMMS
The Amsterdam Institute for Molecules, Medicines and Systems (AIMMS) established in April 2011. AIMMS comprises seventeen of the best research groups in pharmaceutical sciences, life sciences, computational life sciences and molecular sciences at VU University. By integrating these scientific disciplines, the researchers involved in AIMMS are aiming at the elucidation of molecular mechanisms of diseases, the development of novel and safer drugs, therapeutics (e.g. proteins, antibodies and other biologics) and diagnostics (e.g. molecular and translational biomarkers). During your studies you will utilize the expertise of this institute.
International research groups
Our contacts with international research groups provide many opportunities for studying abroad, both within the academic world and the pharmaceutical industry. There are grants available through ULLA, our well-established European Pharmaceutical Science Network (Uppsala, Leiden, London, VU University Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Parma and Paris).
