Political Science: specialization International Relations and Transnational Governance
Career prospects
As a graduate of the Master’s programme in Political Science at VU University Amsterdam, you will be capable of working effectively in a multidisciplinary environment: you will be familiar with and have a solid foundation in the approaches used in the wider world of the social sciences. Graduates are well-equipped to undertake roles in organizations where coherent policy papers are produced, based on specialist reports from various disciplinary backgrounds.
You can easily find yourself working as a policy analyst or advisor within an international governmental or non-governmental organization, in the private sector, or as a civil servant in a government ministry. You will also be well qualified to work in the field of journalism. Of course, finding a position in an international organization can be difficult. During the programme, you will find out more about your own interests, and how you can use them for an international career. Our teaching and support staff can help you with planning your next steps.
The thorough application of research skills offered by the programme also prepares you for successful participation in PhD research at the VU University Amsterdam or other postgraduate institutes around the world. The Political Science Department conducts research on Multi-layered Governance in the New Europe and Beyond. Occasionally, there is room within this research programme for talented individuals to take up a position as a research assistant or a PhD candidate.
