Femke Halsema

Femke Halsema is a Dutch politician born on 25 April 1966 in Haarlem, the Netherlands. She is a member of the GroenLinks political party and has been active in politics since the early 1990s. 

Halsema was leader of GroenLinks from 2002 to 2010. During her leadership, she played an important role in shaping the party's positions and promoting its environmentally conscious and socially just agenda. She was known for her communication skills and progressive positions on issues such as climate change, immigration and human rights. 

In 2018, Halsema made history by becoming the first female mayor of Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands. As mayor, she focuses on various aspects of city governance, including urban development, sustainability and social cohesion. Halsema works hard to address challenges facing Amsterdam, such as affordable housing, tourism management and the integration of diverse communities. 

Before her political career, Halsema worked as a journalist and columnist, contributing to newspapers and magazines in the Netherlands.
