Science, Business & Innovation: Master’s track in Chemistry and Physics

SBI at VU University Amsterdam

A scientific invention is not a product, is not an innovation. But: what does it take for an invention to lead to an innovation? What defines the pathway from exploration to exploitation? That is the central theme in the Science, Business & Innovation (SBI) Bachelor's and Master's programs at VU.

Experts from natural sciences, business and social sciences define a high-quality programme focusing on innovation processes in sustainable energy, drug development and biomedical technology.

This Master’s track (*) has two themes: Energy Science and Life Science. You will focus on one theme or combine the two. Courses include for example: Current Sustainable Energy Technologies, Business, Innovation and Value Creation in Life Science Industry and Management of Sustainable Innovation.

In courses and projects, you will analyse, interpret and work with new developments, inventions, products and services in life and/or energy science. Concurrently, you will advance your knowledge in social and business sciences, strengthening your knowledge of leadership, entrepreneurship, decision-making and R&D management. You can also take electives in an area of your own choosing.

Your studies will be concluded with an interdisciplinary SBI research internship at a company or institute, leading to a Master's thesis.
