Research student assistantships
A limited number of positions of research assistant are available. Outstanding students could apply for such a position after finishing 24 ECTS in courses. An assistantship is a paid job, typically for six months for one or two days a week focused on solving open problems connected to the research programs of the department. This research work can make part of the master thesis project and is carried out under responsibility of one of the faculty members of the department. Assistantships are open to both Dutch and international students. Talented students are advised to contact one of the faculty members directly, and work out a research proposal. The assistantships are awarded by the Head of the Department of Mathematics after advice by the Scientific Committee.
Studying abroad
There are many opportunities for study and work placements in an international setting. Students can join exchange programmes or avail themselves of funds from private sources. Spending time studying or on a work placement abroad is an attractive option. It will add lustre to your CV and increase your chances on the job market.
The VU University Amsterdam Office for International Relations will be glad to be of assistance. More information is available at VU International Office. Or contact the faculty contact persons for International Relations.
