Shanghai ranking

The Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) or Shanghai Ranking is a global ranking published annually by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University. This ranking is based on the following indicators:
• the number of Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals awarded to alumni (10% of the overall ranking score)
• the number of Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals awarded to staff members (20%)
• the number of highly cited researchers (20%)
• the number of articles indexed by Web of Science (20%)
• the number of articles published in Nature and Science. (20%)
• the weighted scores of the above five indicators divided by the number of full time equilvalent academic staff (10%)

In 2019-2020 Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam has been ranked 103rd best world university in academic excellence in Academic Ranking of World Universities of Shanghai ranking.
