Internships at Ecology & Evolution
Internships at Environmental Health & Toxicology
We offer internship opportunities to both BSc and MSc students with a clear interest in (eco)toxicology and/or epidemiology (as evidenced by courses taken). The topics align with these two research themes of our section Environmental Health and Toxicology. Models involved in our (eco)toxicity studies include cell lines, organoids, zebrafish embryos, and nematodes. Techniques involved include cell culturing, biochemical analyses, qPCR, toxicity testing, histopathology, (confocal) microscopy, immunostaining, behavior analyses and the use of transgenic worm and fish lines. Our epidemiological research has a focus on assessing the risks of chemicals, pollutants, and co-occurring exposures (the exposome) for reproductive and child health. We also assess predictors of exposure and exposure reduction interventions. Methods include statistical analysis of questionnaire data and cohort data, including regression modelling of exposure–outcome associations.

Internships at Molecular Microbiology
We offer internship opportunities to both BSc and MSc students with a clear interest in microbiology (as evidenced by courses taken). The topics align with the four research themes indicated on this website. Techniques involved include protein purification and detection techniques, cell fractionation, biochemical analyses, microscopy-based bacterial cell biology, fluorescence-based monitoring of bacterial growth and stress, and molecular cloning and detection techniques.
