For students, the faculty has the same duty of care. For that reason, we apply this prevention and vaccination policy to work/study related activities, which may lead to risks of infection with certain diseases.

Naturally, the list of possible diseases/risks is larger than described in the policy, but in this policy, we focus on acute hazardous situations in defined work situations. In the laboratories and fieldwork of our faculty, hepatitis B and tetanus pose the most acute risks to our staff and students. In addition, in specific fieldwork with bats rabies infection may be a risk.

Policy
If employees, interns or students are going to work in a work situation, where there is a risk of infection with hepatitis B or tetanus, they must be vaccinated for their own safety. If they are not vaccinated, they cannot perform relevant work.

Practical information:
For whom is the vaccination intended?

All employees/interns/students at risk of hepatitis B or tetanus infection during their work, including field or laboratory work with human material (blood, tissue, primary cells, etc) or laboratory animals (bite incidents).

What vaccinations:

The following vaccinations are covered if relevant to the work:

• Hepatitis B
• Tetanus
• Rabies, when regularly working with bats

Who is paying the costs of vaccination? The cost of vaccination is paid by the department/section. However, you usually must advance these first. In that case, always provide a receipt!
