The VU Department of Computer Science has approximately 170 staff members, including 35 tenured staff members and 40-50 PhD students. Lecturers form a critical and essential basis for the functioning of the department, providing foundational education that helps determine the future of our students.
Our research and our students are diverse, covering disciplines such as Social sciences, Humanities, and Economics. Currently, we offer three BSc programmes in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Information Sciences, with a total of around 1000 students. From September 2019 all our teaching will be in English.
 
Job description
Within the Department of Computer Science we are looking for 2 enthusiastic Junior Lecturers who want to contribute to the teaching of our 3 Bachelor programmes, by supporting our experienced Lecturers and Professors in and outside class. This support can consist in instructing working groups or practical sessions, as well as developing and marking of new assignments. You will also be given the opportunity to develop a summer courses and follow an Academic Teacher Training (BKO, Basis Kwalificatie Onderwijs).  
 
Our Junior Teachers are expected to play an active role in the development and innovation of our Teaching. In this capacity, Junior Teachers will play a leading role in improving the quality of individual courses using new didactic approaches, such as Digital technology or new didactic concepts.
 
As Junior Teacher there will be a focus on personal development to streamline you for a career in various educational domains, such as in higher education, education administration or companies). To this end you will get the chance to build a personal portfolio and you will be supported in further educating yourself in the scientific educational domain.
 
Expected Tasks
Jointly with the other members of the teaching organization, you will be expected to perform the following tasks:
• Preparation and instruction of working groups and computer practical within the Bachelor and Master programmes of the Department of Computer Science.
• Marking of final assignments within the Bachelor Programmes.
• Coordination and administration of teaching related activities.
• Participating in Marketing and Communication activities to pupils and students.
• Activities related to teaching innovation, such as participation in projects such as “Applying digital technology for teaching” or “Improving links with Industry”.
 
Requirements
You have a Master degree in a field related to the Computer Science programmes, and proven affinity with teaching. You also: 
• have good organisational and social skills
• can easily collaborate in teams (of both junior and senior teachers)
 
Note that English is the teaching language within the department, and demonstrated English language proficiency will be required. The ability to speak and write in Dutch is a significant benefit.

Salary
The salary will be in accordance with university regulations for academic personnel and range from a minimum of € 2,640.00 up to a maximum of € 2,897.00 gross per month (salary scale 10 CAO NU) based on a full-time employment.
