Job description
The International Services team of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam provides immigration services for international students and staff.  The immigration officer is responsible for the application of visa and residents permits for non-EU students and staff.  We are looking for a temporary employee until September 2019.
 
Your duties
• process and evaluate visa, residence permit for students and staff
• provide advice and guidance on aspects of the immigration processes
• relationship management with students and staff before and during their arrival
• contribute to a welcoming and international atmosphere
• contribute to the quality assurance of our services
• contribute to positive team spirit and open work culture
 
Requirements
• completed education at college or university level
• experience with immigration procedures
• fluency in Dutch and English is a must, both written and spoken
• accurate and goal-oriented way of working
• good communication skills, both written and spoken
• a strong service-oriented, proactive attitude
• possessing intercultural skills is a must
• experience with organizing and improving administrative processes
• stress resistant character
• It is not possible to take a leave in the period 15 April – 15 September
 
What are we offering?
A challenging position in a socially involved organization. On full-time basis the remuneration amounts to a minimum gross monthly salary of € 2,514, - and a maximum € 3,358 in accordance with salary scale 8, depending on your education and experience. The job profile (Medewerker internationalisering 3) is based on the university job ranking system and is vacant for at least 0,8 FTE.
 
The initial employment contract will affect a period of max. 9 months, with no possibility of extension.

Student & Educational Affairs
The Student & Education Affairs department provides services to Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam students and staff. We are responsible for registration and de-registration of Dutch and international students, and we arrange accommodation for international students and researchers. We work on developing a distinctive educational policy. We support and evaluate teaching practice and logistics, from initial enrolment to graduation. We are also responsible for VU students who need specific forms of guidance. Our ambition is to provide excellent, transparent and efficient service to students and staff.
 
Working at Student & Educational Affairs means working at the heart of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. You will be involved in many of the university’s central processes and you will work closely with the faculties and their staff. Student & Educational Affairs employs more than 200 individuals in seven departments: Management, Student Administration (SSA), Student Counselling (CSB), Educational Policy, Quality Assurance and Process Management (OKP), International Office (IO), VU Sports Centre and Griffioen Cultural Center.
 
International Office
The International Office (IO) is responsible for advising on the internationalization strategy at the institutional level and provides services to students and foreign staff of the university. The Mobility Department processes the applications from foreign students who want to enroll in an English-taught Bachelor's or Master's programme, provides the credential evaluation of foreign certificates and processes the applications of visas, residence permits and work permits for students and staff. In addition, we inform students about the opportunities for a study and an internship abroad, manage various funds and exchange programmes and provide accommodation for foreign students and staff.
 
The International Service Team is part of the VU International Office and offers services for its international students, guests and employees. These services include support in finding accommodation, immigration matters (Visa/Residence permit) and applying for scholarships.
