Designing Challenging Education

The VU Education Day is the place to share inspiring ideas, projects and practical examples from education with each other, and to look forward to the (near) future of education.

The Vrije Universiteit strives for high quality education. The VU Education Agenda and the VU Quality Plan aim to support this goal. At the same time, teachers and researchers are under increasing pressure. This increasing pressure is partly due to the growing student population that becomes more and more international and diverse at the same time. Furthermore, education should become more attractive, socially relevant and contribute to a sustainable future. The VU Education Day 2020 aims to provide teachers with inspiration to deal with this problem.

Kristina EdströmThe Teaching Trick: Improve student learning without spending more time teaching.
The keynote will be given by Dr. Kristina Edström, Associate Professor in Engineering Education Development at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden.

Kristina Edström will discuss ways to intensify students' learning without having to spend more time on teaching: an attractive idea for many teachers. She presents principles and Best Practices based on experience and research.

Linda Duits (UvA) in Folia about Kristina Edström
[...] Kristina Edström gave a keynote on what every teacher wants to know: how to ensure that your students study better, without spending more time on education as a teacher. The trick is to do more that produces learning results, and do less that doesn’t do so. This sounds silly, but she then gave practical tips on how to achieve this. The audience hung on her every word!
