The aim of the Aurora Alliance is to promote the cooperation, quality and inclusiveness of European higher education. Out of 62 applications, 24 networks were selected to receive funding. This funding will enable VU Amsterdam to embed social entrepreneurship more firmly within its educational programme, so that students can create social impact and work towards a better world.
President of the Executive Board Mirjam van Praag: "The selection of this proposal is a wonderful result for VU Amsterdam and its students. The Aurora Alliance wants to combine excellent education with societal impact. We are going to do so by paying more attention to social entrepreneurship in our education. Knowledge alone is not enough; students also need to develop the skills to realise innovation: Learning for Societal Impact.”
The Aurora Alliance creates opportunities for VU Amsterdam’s students to develop their knowledge and skills in social entrepreneurship in an international environment. Student mobility will be encouraged both physically and virtually and students will gain the competences to make a difference. Doing research, taking courses and doing internships at different universities will become much easier.
The alliance also consists of the universities of East Anglia, Iceland, Duisburg-Essen, Copenhagen Business School, Innsbruck, Tarragona, Olomouc and Naples. The funding from this second pilot round of the European Universities Initiative will also be invested in social entrepreneurship within the educational programmes of the other affiliated universities.
