A PhD candidate is eligible to apply for a position in a PhD programme at Vrije Universiteit if she or he is in possession of a Master’s degree or an internationally recognized equivalent. Each Graduate School and Faculty also has the right to set additional eligibility criteria for their applicants.
All PhD training programmes at Vrije Universiteit are taught in English. We expect proficiency in the English language from all of our PhD candidates, both in speech and writing.
The College of Deans decides on the admission to all PhD programmes. PhD candidates who have agreed with their prospective supervisors on the type of their tentative PhD appointment and training programme and who have secured the necessary funding can apply for admission to a specific PhD programme. Applicants must submit the following documents to the Chair of the Doctorate Board of their prospective supervisor’s faculty:
- Admission form, signed by the dean of the faculty;
- Certified copy of Master’s certificate and copy passport;
- Approved Training and Supervision Plan;
- Signed Code of Conduct for Scientific Practice.
All of the required documents listed above are provided by the faculty. They can be downloaded on VUnet, and are accessible only through the Vrije Universiteit’s computer network.
