Confidential counsellors inappropriate behaviour

Are you experiencing inappropriate behaviour, such as bullying, intimidation, discrimination or (sexual) harassment? Experiencing inappropriate behaviour can be distressing and may have a significant impact on your wellbeing, as well as on your studies or work. You don't have to keep it to yourself. You can always contact one of our confidential advisers.

What does a confidential counsellor do?

The VU’s confidential counsellors are available to students, PhD candidates, and staff. They provide a safe and confidential space where you can share your experiences. They listen without judgement and offer professional guidance to help you find an appropriate solution. They have a thorough understanding of the academic environment and its unique challenges.

Together, you will discuss what support you need, what assistance VU Amsterdam can offer, and whether any follow-up action is appropriate in your situation. Your confidential counsellor will help you explore your options, explain the procedures and support available within the university, and provide the information you need to make an informed decision. You remain in control throughout the process, and no action will be taken without your consent. Your confidential counsellor is independent and is there to support you.

If you would simply like to talk through a situation or discuss something that has concerned you, you are very welcome to get in touch. You do not have to make a formal report to speak to a confidential counsellor.
