Ancient Near Eastern Languages and Cultures

Are you interested in ancient culture and history? Would you like to learn an ancient language?

Then this minor is for you!

Admission and registration

  • Admission

    This minor is offered in collaboration between the two Amsterdam universities, VU Amsterdam and the University of Amsterdam (UvA). These institutions have clustered their knowledge and expertise in the Amsterdam Centre for Ancient Studies and Archaeology (ACASA)

    Religion in Antiquity, but also the Elementary Akkadian courses are taught on the UvA campus in the city centre. Registration for these courses takes place at UvA.

    The course Aramaic takes place at Leiden University. You'll have to register as a guest student there. 

    Some courses take place in the second semester.

    For more information about the registration procedure, please ease take a look at this page. ​

    Important additional information: Religion in Antiquity and the Elementary Akkadian courses are taught on the UvA campus in the city centre. Registration for this courses takes place at the UvA. Therefore, you need to register as an elective course student at the UvA via Studielink in order to take this courses. Please note that the course registration periods at UvA differ from those at VU Amsterdam. 

    The course Aramaic takes place at Leiden University. You'll have to register as a guest student there. You should also register for the course at VU.
