Admission and Registration

  • Admission

The minor is accessible for students already studying at VU Amsterdam and students from other universities. Check the admission requirements below to see if you can apply for this minor.

    General requirements

At least 90 EC obtained within one university bachelor programme.

    Specific admission requirements

High-school level maths (or a basic course in quantitative methods and/or statistics) is strongly recommended. We offer self-study refresher material if needed.

This minor is for university students from nearly all majors who want to acquire familiarity with the core principles of economic reasoning. Participants in the past had majors in among others Organization Studies, Physics, Health Studies, Medicine, Civil Engineering, Philosophy, Political Science, Mathematics, Theology, and came from many faculties at VU and beyond (e.g. UvA, TU Delft or universities abroad). Economics combines well (either as complement or as addition) with lots of disciplines and fields of study.

Students in the BSc programmes Economics and Business Economics, and Econometrics are excluded from participating in this university minor.

The minor is open to exchange and Semester in Amsterdam students.

  • Registration

Check the registration procedure for minors.

The minor consists of the five courses as shown in the Curriculum Overview for all students except BK/IBA students.

Students of the BSc programmes Bedrijfskunde (BK) and International Business Administration (IBA) must follow the adjusted track for BK/IBA, that is, replacing the course “Introduction to Economics” with the course “Health Economics”. Find more information in the study guide.”
