Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)

Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)

SoTL not only benefits individual educators but also the institution and educational community as a whole. By conducting rigorous research on teaching and learning, we can identify evidence-based practices that enhance student engagement, promote critical thinking, and foster a positive learning environment.

How does CTL facilitate SoTL?

  • Facilitation and collaboration between lecturers and other educational stakeholders in conducting scholarship for teaching and learning
  • Coordination of the various Research and Development Communities
  • Providing training and relevant expertise in scholarship for teaching and learning
  • Guiding innovation by gathering and disseminating good practices and evidence of their success

Educational scholarship and research contribute to evidence-informed innovation

The SoTL team at CTL seeks to improve the quality of teaching and learning in higher education through:

  • The use of technology to support teaching and learning
  • The development of evidence-based teaching practices
  • The incorporation of inclusive teaching practices
  • The exploration of new models of teaching and learning, such as blended and online learning
  • An increasing interest in the assessment of student learning outcomes and the evaluation of the effectiveness of teaching strategies

SOTL in Practice
An example of SoTL as practiced at CTL is the SoTL BKO-SKO Alumni Fund.
