Academic Dutch Plus

Are you studying Dutch at VU Amsterdam and want to improve your writing skills? The Academic Dutch Plus course can help you. Besides structure and style, you will also work on your language skills. You will immediately apply your new knowledge and skills to your own text.

Academic Dutch Plus is designed for students who have difficulty writing academic texts and/or encounter language problems while writing. The course is also open to students who have learned Dutch as a second language.

What do you encounter while writing?
Examples of writing and language problems are that your style is not sufficiently academic, the text does not have a clear structure, your sentences are too long or the sentence structure is incorrect. The words you use may also not be precise enough, or the punctuation may not be in the right place in the text.

Do you recognize one or more of these problems when writing? In this course, you will learn how to put your thoughts and ideas into words clearly, so that your writing skills no longer get in the way of your studies. This will help you meet the program's expectations when it comes to assignments, papers or theses.

Classroom and self-study
The Academic Dutch Plus course consists of five group meetings on the VU campus. There is also an individual coaching session. At the beginning of the course, you hand in a text you have written for your studies. During the course, you work independently at home to improve that text. Two weeks after the last meeting, you hand in your improved text. You will receive feedback on this from the teacher.

For whom?
This writing course is particularly suitable for students from the second year of their Dutch-language bachelor's program. Even as a (pre-)master student you can benefit greatly from this course when writing academic texts such as your thesis.

Are you a first year bachelor student? Then you will take a Dutch language test and go through a brush-up program if necessary. Nevertheless, you can possibly participate in Academic Dutch Plus for a specific language problem.
