Citizen in charge? Vulnerable attempts to democratize healthcare

Why does citizen participation sometimes have a substantial influence on the organization of local healthcare provision, while it sometimes proves to be a fruitless exercise?

This research investigates the efforts of professional healthcare providers to involve citizens more actively in organizing their services. How are established boundaries in healthcare called into question?
