Since its founding, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam has stood for values-driven science. With an open mind, a strong societal focus and accessible academic research, we contribute to a healthy, sustainable and just world.
Through leading research, we contribute to solutions to complex societal issues and foster constructive societal dialogue. As researchers, we work in flexible collaborations with societal partners, drawing on a wide range of disciplines and perspectives. In these dynamic networks, we are driven by curiosity – even in applied or demand-driven research.
Our academic research focuses on three domains: health and well-being, climate and environment, and justice and resilience.
We stand for responsible open science. We inspire one another, share each other’s knowledge and insights, and show how our results are achieved. At the same time, we carefully consider ethical and legal dilemmas. That’s how we build public trust in science and achieve maximum impact for our city, region and society as a whole.
