Social safety

VU Amsterdam is committed to fostering a study and work environment where social safety is a central priority, allowing students, staff, and PhD candidates to grow and thrive.

That’s why we are collectively working towards an open and inclusive culture—one that embraces diverse perspectives. By addressing each other respectfully, listening actively, and contributing to mutual understanding, we ensure that our community leaves no room for (cyber)bullying, stalking, doxxing, discrimination, (sexual) harassment, intimidation, aggression, or violence.

Raising and discussing socially unsafe behaviour is vital, though not always easy. It requires a willingness to engage in uncomfortable or challenging conversations and a genuine respect for differences—for instance, in situations of misunderstanding or unintended offence. That is why it’s essential that you feel safe and supported in speaking openly about interpersonal conduct and raising concerns.
